SmoothRider – Terms and Conditions

These Terms and Conditions apply to all services provided by SmoothRider – Motorcycle Rider Development and Advanced Road Coaching ("SmoothRider", "we", "our" or "us"). By making a booking with SmoothRider you agree to these Terms and Conditions.

1. Our Services

SmoothRider provides post-test motorcycle rider development, advanced road coaching, mentoring, rider assessments, Discovery Rides and guided motorcycle tours.

Our coaching is intended to help riders improve their skills, confidence, roadcraft and enjoyment of motorcycling. It is not designed to prepare riders for a motorcycle licence test.

2. Eligibility

Participants must:

  • Hold a full and valid motorcycle licence appropriate for the motorcycle being ridden.

  • Be legally entitled to ride in the United Kingdom.

  • Produce their driving licence if requested.

  • Be medically fit to ride.

  • Not be under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs or medication that may impair riding.

SmoothRider reserves the right to refuse participation where safety may be compromised.

3. Motorcycle Requirements

The participant is responsible for ensuring their motorcycle:

  • Is road legal.

  • Is insured.

  • Has a valid MOT where required.

  • Is taxed where applicable.

  • Is maintained in a safe and roadworthy condition.

SmoothRider may refuse to continue a session if a motorcycle is considered unsafe.

4. Rider Equipment

Participants must wear suitable protective equipment including:

  • Approved motorcycle helmet

  • Protective jacket

  • Protective trousers or suitable riding jeans

  • Motorcycle gloves

  • Suitable motorcycle boots

Sessions may not proceed if appropriate equipment is not worn.

5. Bookings

Bookings are confirmed only once payment (or any agreed deposit) has been received.

SmoothRider reserves the right to decline bookings.

6. Payment

Payment must be made using the methods advised at the time of booking.

Unless otherwise agreed, payment is due before the coaching session or tour commences.

7. Rider Cancellation

Should you need to cancel your booking:

More than 21 days before your booking

You may choose a transfer to another available date.

Between 7 and 14 days

You may:

  • Transfer your booking to another available date, or

  • Receive a refund less a £50 administration fee.

Less than 7 days

Refunds are not normally available.

Where possible, SmoothRider will attempt to fill the cancelled booking. If successful, a refund may be offered less the £25 administration fee.

8. Discovery Rides

Discovery Ride places are limited.

Bookings cancelled with at least 48 hours' notice may be transferred to another published Discovery Ride.

Discovery Ride fees are otherwise non-refundable.

9. Cancellation by SmoothRider

SmoothRider may postpone or cancel a session because of:

  • Severe weather

  • Unsafe road conditions

  • Mechanical failure

  • Illness

  • Insufficient participant numbers (where applicable)

  • Any circumstance that could affect safety

Customers may choose either:

  • A full refund, or

  • Transfer to another available date.

SmoothRider shall not be liable for travel, accommodation or any other consequential costs incurred.

10. Weather

Motorcycling naturally involves riding in varying weather conditions.

Sessions will normally proceed in wet or cold weather.

Only where conditions are considered unsafe will SmoothRider postpone the session.

11. Rider Responsibilities

Participants remain fully responsible for:

  • Their own motorcycle.

  • Their own riding decisions.

  • Compliance with the Highway Code.

  • Compliance with all road traffic legislation.

  • Any penalties, fines or prosecutions resulting from their riding.

Coaching advice does not remove the rider's responsibility for making safe decisions.

12. Coaching and Mentoring

SmoothRider provides coaching, mentoring and rider development.

The participant remains entirely responsible for controlling their motorcycle.

Nothing in a coaching session should be interpreted as an instruction to ride beyond the rider's ability or beyond what is safe for the prevailing conditions.

13. Photography and Video

SmoothRider may take photographs or record video during coaching sessions.

Images and recordings may be used:

  • For coaching feedback.

  • For quality assurance.

  • For promotional purposes only where consent has been given.

Participants may withdraw promotional consent at any time.

14. Guided Tours

Participants on guided tours remain responsible for:

  • Fuel

  • Food and refreshments

  • Accommodation unless otherwise stated

  • Personal expenses

  • Travel insurance (where appropriate)

  • Motorcycle breakdown cover

Tour routes may be altered due to weather, road closures or other unforeseen circumstances.

15. Limitation of Liability

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or any other liability that cannot be excluded under English law.

Subject to the above, participants acknowledge that motorcycling is an inherently hazardous activity and that they remain responsible for the control and operation of their motorcycle throughout all coaching sessions, Discovery Rides and guided tours.

16. Privacy

Personal information will be processed in accordance with SmoothRider's Privacy Policy and applicable UK data protection legislation.

Participant information will not be shared with third parties except where required by law or with the participant's consent.

17. Complaints

If you are dissatisfied with any aspect of our service, please contact us as soon as possible.

We aim to resolve all complaints fairly, promptly and professionally.

18. Governing Law

These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.

Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
