Cheshire
Cheshire is one of those counties that quietly delivers everything a motorcyclist wants—fast flowing A-roads, tight technical sections, tree-lined B-roads and wide open countryside that rolls on for miles. It’s a place where you can ride hard in the morning, slow it down for lunch in a market town, and still be carving corners by the afternoon.
Start with the elegant countryside around Knutsford, where smooth roads link manicured lanes, estates and open farmland. From here, the riding quickly builds character as you head towards Tarporley and the quieter backroads that stitch together the heart of the county.
For many riders, Cheshire’s crown jewel is the legendary climb over the Peak fringe on the Cat and Fiddle Road (A537). This is proper rider territory—tight bends, elevation changes and sweeping views as the road cuts between Cheshire and the Peak District. It’s one of the UK’s most famous riding roads for a reason, demanding respect but rewarding smooth, confident riding.
Nearby, the A54 and A51 corridors offer a very different experience—long, fast, flowing sections linking villages like Alderley Edge and the edges of the countryside towards Delamere. These roads are perfect for rhythm riding, where you can settle into a pace and let the landscape roll by.
If you prefer something more relaxed, the woodland routes through Delamere Forest are a standout. Dappled light, gentle sweepers and quiet, shaded roads make this area ideal for a calm but engaging ride, especially outside peak hours.
Further south, the lanes around Malpas, Audlem and the Shropshire border offer some of the most underrated riding in the region. Expect empty B-roads, rolling farmland and long sightlines that make for effortless, flowing progress.
Cheshire doesn’t rely on dramatic scenery or headline mountain passes. Instead, it wins you over with consistency—clean tarmac, varied routes and an endless network of roads that feel built for real-world riding.
Link it all together and you’ve got one of the best all-round riding counties in the North West, especially when combined with quick access to the Peak District or North Wales for longer days out. Ride it once, and you’ll understand why Cheshire quietly sits on so many riders’ regular routes.
