SmoothRider Touring
FAQs
What makes SmoothRider Ride Outs different?
A SmoothRider Discovery Ride is not a race, a test of ability or a traditional "follow the leader" ride.
We believe the best motorcycle experiences come from:
Riding smoothly.
Making good decisions.
Enjoying the scenery.
Taking time to appreciate the journey.
Sharing the experience with other riders.
The goal is not to arrive first.
The goal is to enjoy every mile.
Who is the Ride Leader
The SmoothRider Ride Leader is an experienced instructor and coach and has worked as a ride leader for manufacturers on bike releases and demo days and will:
Lead the route.
Provide a briefing before departure.
Manage planned stops.
Monitor the group.
Help create an enjoyable experience.
The Ride Leader is there to support the group, not to set a pace that riders must follow.
Are SmoothRider Ride Outs suitable for all motorcycles?
Yes. Our tours are suitable for most road motorcycles including adventure bikes, sports tourers, naked bikes and touring motorcycles.
Are SmoothRider Ride Outs suitable for Learners?
We are afraid not. Our insurance requires that all riders participating in the ride hold full licences
Are these fast Ride Outs?
No Pressure Riding
SmoothRider does not encourage:
Racing.
Competitive riding.
Trying to impress other riders.
Riding beyond your comfort zone.
There is no expectation to ride faster than you normally would.
How many riders are in each group?
To maintain quality and provide a personal experience, groups are kept small. The Maximum group size is 10
Are there rules for the group?
All bikes and riders must be legal and compliant. At the start of the tour SmoothRider will clearly state the group rules. This is for the safety and enjoyment of everybody.
Do I need a GPS?
No. All Ride outs follow the second man drop off routine. This is a simple way of keeping the group together, allowing riders to keep to their own pace and ensure that nobody gets lost. The way this works will be explained at the start of the ride to anybody who is unsure.
Do I need any special Preparation of my Motorcycle?
No. As long as you have performed your nomal checks before riding you should be fine. Just do you POWDERY, BOLTSS, or BESTCOPS as you would have done since your CBTs.
What about the Weather?
Normally a ride will go ahead in most weather conditions.
Motorcycling is affected by weather.
If conditions change:
The pace may reduce.
Additional stops may be added.
The route may be adjusted.
Safety and enjoyment always come before completing the planned route.
What am I responsible for?
Each rider is responsible for:
Their motorcycle.
Their riding decisions.
Their personal safety.
Following UK road laws.
SmoothRider provides route planning, guidance and organisation, but every rider remains responsible for riding within their own ability.
