About Me
I am a passionate biker, riding all year round currently on my R1250GSA.
I cover in excess of 25000miles per year for both work and pleasure and enjoy nothing more than having Caroline on pillion with me.
Apart from my training and mentoring I also work as a demo rider for a number of motorcycle manufacturers and work on the bike demo teams as an outrider at events such as Motorcycle Live and ABR.
I passed my test in 1971 on a Honda XL250s and like many riders at the time used it to go to work and general transport.
Over the years I progressed through Z650s to GSXR 750s. I even spent a while as a despatch rider. I would say I survived the first years on a bike through luck rather than any good judgement.
In 2017 I was attending Bike4Life when I spoke to the guys on the SAMM/IAM stand. I had a desire to become a Bloodbiker and one requirement is an advanced riding certificate.
I embarked on the course and was completely hooked on advanced riding.
With an advanced rider pass under my belt I became a Bloodbiker for SSCBB and have spent many hours riding the liveried Bloodbikes across the West Midlands.
Not only did I find that I learnt new skills and strategies for the road but my riding became more relaxed. I then found I was getting to places quicker without having to ride faster but
I was also more relaxed when I got to my destination.
After my initial advanced test with the IAM I then took the RoSPA test and passed with a Gold.
Keen to share these skills with others I then embarked on my IAM local observer qualification, followed by the IAM National Observer.
I took my IAM advanced riding as far as I could when I took the Masters exam in 2019, passing with a distinction and then went on to become a Masters Mentor.
As well as coaching riders with the IAM I am also a qualified DVSA Enhanced Rider Trainer.
Not only am I enthusiastic about my own riding I am passionate about passing those skills and techniques on to other riders.
